After an extended period of line breeding, we came to the conclusion that we needed to infuse fresh genes. Given our extensive time in the sport, we had a firm handle on what was available as far as outside bloodline were concerned. Knowing this and knowing what we wanted and needed to improve our dogs. We returned to our roots and added more coonhound influence, specifically Treeing Walker blood. To accomplish this, we made several crosses to best studs available, regardless of distance or stud fee.
These crossses involved the best cur females we had and several top quality studs, including: UKC WORLD NITECH X Jr. twice, Rat Attack, Babe's Stylish Banjo, Flatrock Thrasher, UKC WORLD NITECH Rock River Gap and Conerager. We also purchased or leased several quality Walker females including direct daughters of X Jr, Rat Attack and Bad Habit to cross on Amazing Shamrock.
We have now began crossing these "hound/cur crosses" back onto each other. We are continuing to produce outstanding dogs and have debunked the hybrid theories to our own personal satisfaction. We would not undermine the opinions of others or the science that they apply to their theories...all we can say is that for whatever reason, call it a continual fluke or thirty years of dumb luck...our methods have worked for us and others for five generations of tree dogs. We are not newcomers by any stretch but continue to strive for better dogs and will never be satisfied. |
